***BOOK REVIEW FOR MIDNIGHT BITES FROM PRETTYSCARY.NET BY JACKIE COUPE***

Who are the Gratista Vampire Clan you ask? Well, a group of hardened veterans of the vampire lore for one. A motley crew of independent publication specialists for another. The whole clan, who accept any and all newcomers embrace the dark and erotic side of horror. The ring leader and all around ‘good girl at being bad’, Mistress Santiago, ‘resurrected’ her popular Ezine ‘Dark Gothic’ last year and has enjoyed moderate success. The Clan itself with this release hope to give the ‘older’ reader something a little more ‘wet and inviting’ to arouse as well as repulse...

Snuff film - we are all familiar with the expression and what it means. Films depicting the actual torture and sometimes killing of people caught on film. A neat little twist to this one, a little bit of Mafioso mixed in for that Goodfellas/Sopranos feel. The main character has a hidden agenda and a slash fest ensues…GREAT!!

Stone Promise - You have to read it a couple of times to get the true sense of it. Nice piece but perhaps could have been more deeply developed

Love Bites - Awww, a piece from young gifted chat‘a’holic Kody Boye. Hot manly man sex. Here’s a writer I have had the pleasure of reading before, he is quickly developing character strength and context. This tale shows a couple of swinging dicks gettin’ it on. A cleanly written short story that speaks volumes about it’s 15 year old writer. A good read, simple, like all the greats in their prime. Get your bite on!!

Diabolic Rapture - Surprisingly upbeat, it carries a cracking tempo. A little vampire slap and tickle in true ‘Gratista’ fashion!

Danger Zone - Short tale about a club owner with a difference. A vampire whose favourite and most cherished dancer fancies him, she also suspects what he is. Not a lot to this tale aside from the main characters. It’s a bit HAWT!

~ Following this it is worth mentioning that there is some incredible photography and artwork to be seen throughout this publication. There is an absolutely stunning photo of a church following ‘Danger Zone’, a place that I wouldn’t mind having a look round to be honest, lol! ~

The Feeders Anomaly - One of my favourites, not your box standard night time tale. Hehe, I suppose a story about genetalia mutilation was just what the doctor ordered! Good piece of solid story telling with a character you can’t help but admire.

Diamonds in the Rain - Just an odd little piece of prose really…

A Winters Unrequited Love - by the Mistress herself, a short piece about grave stones and the cold that bites the heart within the absence of love. This piece is why she is the leader and respected Matriach of the Gratista Clansters, a nice end to the book.

"Hallowed Malice is a collection of six horror stories. Most of the stories center around an individual who has been wronged, and the vengeance they take on those who have hurt them. Other stories deal with the pain that comes with the loss of a loved one, focusing on what lengths some people will go to relieve the agony. Sprinkled throughout the anthology are eerie photos and depressing poems...Overall, Hallowed Malice is a truly hair-raising experience."~Brianna, Reviewer for Bitten By Books.com

Reader comments:
"If you want NON-contemporary, out-of-the-box thinking and original, dark stuff, I recommend this book. You won't find disturbing stuff like this anywhere." H. Winstel, Philadelphia, PA

"THESE WRITERS DO NOT WRITE FOR THE MAINSTREAM--THEY WRITE FOR HARDCORE HORROR WRITERS. Which, in my opinion, is what we need in such a boring Hollywood-glazed horror genre." S. Collins, Philadelphia, PA

Herein lies stories of insanity, or how insanity is perceived....be it tranquil or scraped from the darkened depths of one's skull...peaceful or strangely prodigious...insanity means many things to many people, it's all in the perception. From bawdy, to gothic, to blatantly sick, many windows have been opened, some of them 'cracked'--perhaps the authors themselves are insane?

"In the latest offering from The Gratista Vampire Clan we are given a mix of poetry and short stories punctuated with some Gothic photographs that add to the flavor. The poetry was dark and abstract but seemed to fit well in the overall scheme. In the short stories we have a mixture of vampires, zombies, psychotics, and ghosts; something for everyone.

The anthology has unrequited love, a set of vampiric women who feed for an unusual reason, and a guy who is stuck in a loop without any end. The final story of the anthology ‘The Box’ had a couple twists that I didn’t see coming but loved it none the less.

The story for which the anthology is named, Psychotic Divinity finds an old vampire who feels very confident in his abilities pitted against the church and a priest. When the priest begins harassing the werewolves in the community the vampire is called in to dispatch the priest but things take a turn no one is expecting."~Review by Kersyn, www.bittenbybooks.com

"Forget 'mainstream' horror, THIS is what you want to read. Thought out plots and storylines, unlike Hollywood's thoughtless/plotless gorefests just for gore's sake. The Gratista Vampire Clan group has got themselves another winner here. More haunting, excellent photography by Ms. Cinsearae S., and knock-em-dead stories by Spider, Anton Glascow, Mari Mc Bryar and Camille McKeever. I can always rest assured knowing I'm going to get a treat when their anthologies come out. I wish this group continued success and await their next tome! If you haven't read any of their books yet, I recommend you do!" Shaun C., aka The Purple Raven

THE GRATISTA VAMPIRE CLAN PRESENTS ITS FOURTH ANTHOLOGY, CENTERING ON THE THEMES OF 'PAIN', AND 'SUICIDE'.
Pain. There are many emotions and feelings that encompass that one word. Likewise, those similar emotions and feelings can encompass the fateful act of suicide as well. They can artfully entwine each other, deadly and tragic, inauspicious and ominous, or, simply stand alone--no rhyme or reason to either one.
The Gratista Vampire Clan’s objective here is not to scare anyone with such topics, but to have the reader realize such acts, feelings, and thoughts do exist, and are not to be ignored. In a world that is glossy-coated, superficial, heartless and self-centered, there are still humans out there that feel and bleed, wanting to reach out to someone they can connect with, and have trouble adjusting to this egocentric world that would rather look the other way than come to someone’s aid.
Look past yourself and really SEE the world. There is much, much more to it than the world you create around yourselves.

"I was patiently waiting for the next collection of works from this group, and once more, I'm happy to say I was NOT disappointed. The themes in this anthology might be considered 'touchy' by the more stiffer and mundane-minded, but once you read this, you'll see that it's not what you think.

"Pain" is received on many different levels and can be taken in so many ways. Sometimes, one's pain is another's pleasure. There's a wonderful medley of stories here, some hilarious, some quite sad, and some even mildly erotic. I was quite intrigued with Mr. Mullen's "The Gomorra Incident", as well as Mr. Glascow's "Vinigrettes of Pain" in which he offers excerpts from stories he's written--which I hope one day to actually read in their entirety! "Contemplating The End" by Spider was a hoot--the ending will throw you for a loop! And my jaw dropped when I read "Hotline", again by Mr. Glascow. (What a twist on the whole 'suicide helpline' thing!!!) Ms. Poff's "Vampires
Hurricane Ball" was a spicy treat. Camille, Dominic, Spider, and Phylis give their haunting offerings of poetry, and once again, Ms. Santiago wows the reader with her gothic photography, and I am very much in love with the cover as well. another image that really caught my eye within the book was of a large stone staircase and what looked like the ruins of a piece of a 19th century mansion or something! And although Mr. Boye's story, "Bastion's Pride" was a more conventional piece this time around, it was still dark enough to fit into the category of 'pain of loss' VERY well.

I give this group another round of applause." --SHAUN COLLINS (THE PURPLE RAVEN)
